1991   Twenty stolen paintings worth $500 million from the Van Gogh Museum in the Netherlands, Amsterdam are found in an abandoned car near the museum less than an hour later they were stolen.

2004   Dutch film maker Theo van Gogh is murdered in Amsterdam, Netherlands by Mohammed Bouyeri. The Muslim assassin cites van Gogh's comments about Islam as the motivation for the killing.
