1991   In a tragic incident a Lauda Air Boeing 767 crashes near Bangkok, Thailand, killing all 223 people on-board. The scheduled flight was from Hong Kong to Vienna, Austria and Bangkok was an intermediate stop over.

1995   Austria, Finland and Sweden join the European Union.

1999   An avalanche destroys the village of Galtür, Austria, killing 31.

2000   A cable car catches fire in a tunnel in Kaprun, Austria. 155 people are killed.
