New York City Timeline

1995   Representatives from over 170 countries meet in New York City and decide to extend the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty indefinitely and without conditions.

2001   Nearly 3,000 people are killed in a series of coordinated terrorist attacks perpetrated by al-Qaeda against the United States. The attacks take place in New York City, Arlington, Virginia, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

2003   The Staten Island Ferry crashes into a pier in New York City killing 11 and injuring 34.

2005   New York City transit workers go on strike shutting down the largest public transit system in the United States.
